NEW WORKING GRANT!
EU member states’ governments spend billions of euros every year to buy services from private companies. Who are these companies? How many tenders do they win? Are they active across borders?
Get time and money to dig into this with this working grant. It is for journalists from the countries of the former Eastern block who will write stories with the help of public spending data. With the help of the ‘Elvis (map me tender)’-tool, they can explore relations between governments and the private sector.
We are looking for original investigations as well as follow-ups with a public spending twist. Do you already have a story in mind? Or did you find interesting patterns by playing with the data? Apply for the grant! Selected stories will be presented at the EIJC & Dataharvest conference in May 2019.
Journalists from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Romania can apply. The grant is limited to 2000 – 5000 euro per story.
Elvis is a free online tool developed with the help of multiple grants to help journalists find scoops and additional information for stories on spending of public money. It visualises tender data with focus on the relationship between governments and the private sector. As a part of the grant, journalists will use Elvis in their research, with the support from the Elvis team. Read more about Elvis and what you can do with it here.
About the grant
Your application will be assessed by members of the Elvis team. We oblige ourselves to full confidentiality about any editorial information you provide us. No editorial information will be shared beyond our team. We are happy to assist with pushing your story findings via our networks once you have published!
We want to keep the reporting efforts low. The only thing we ask from you is to collect remarks during the reporting and share your experience of using the Elvis platform in a short survey at the end of the reporting.
The funding for this grant is provided by the Google Digital News Innovation grant. This part of our funding is handled by Journalismfund.eu, an organisation with a long experience in grant-giving to journalists. Payments will thus be made from Journalismfund.eu once the Elvis team has selected the grantees.
Deadline for applications: 17 September 2018, 23:59 CET
